Who’s Coming to the Summit? (Feat. Angelie Ryah)

Why do most people move to San Diego? Angelie’s reason might surprise you.

It wasn’t for the weather. It wasn’t for the beach.

Angelie laughed as she shared. “Well, it’s true. I knew that I needed to live at the border.”

We settle into leather chairs, but Angelie doesn’t stay settled for long. She bounces around, constantly repositioning herself, waving her arms as she shares.

‘Animated’ doesn’t seem to do her justice. Electric?

“I knew what God wanted—it was a rare ‘audible voice’ moment for me—and I couldn’t avoid it: I am called to be an intercessor. I’m called to live in the in-between.”

After years of feeling cramped in her safe world, being called out of that familiar and into this new in-between brought Angelie to life. If you could see her smile as she described it, gripping the arms of the chair:

“I sold my house in Minnesota and moved, but I didn’t cut ties. It was so hard to leave the familiar behind –my dear church, my friendships of 20+ years, everything—but I craved learning a new language, a new way of bringing change from the middle.”

Then she paused and sunk into the chair. “It can be a lonely way to live,” she almost whispered.

Angelie talked about some who were challenged by her decision, hoping it was a temporary stage—“You’ll be back in a year, right?”  She has found that the in-between intercessors are often misunderstood and don’t fit easy categories.

They’re also the ones God uses to hold the world together—and something incredible happens when they realize they aren’t alone.

This September, a community of intercessors will gather to remind one another we aren’t alone. We call it the Summit, a place where people like Angelie come from around the world to learn from one another, to be a Third Community together, and to rest.

Join Angelie and the Peacemakers from all over the world at the Everyday Peacemaking Summit. September 19-22, Puerto Nuevo, Mexico. Details & Registration here. Registration deadline is July 31st.
