Our streets are filled again with a cacophony of anguish.
Another publicized lynching has untethered the revolutionaries, freedom fighters, and peacemakers from the confines of a global pandemic. Undeterred by the flash-bang grenades, the sting of tear gas, and mandatory curfews, the ancient chants of the revolution ring out.
The protest is on!
For so many white sisters and brothers, #GeorgeFloyd’s execution is the moment that has moved you into the streets. You’re pensive, curious, well-intentioned, angry, and ashamed. It feels right to “show up,” but the choreography of the movement is foreign to you. So you walk and you observe and you take pictures and you write reflections.
But protests are not meant to be observed nor consumed. Protests are meant to disrupt the unjust status quo. They intend to disarm the violence of the powerful.
White relatives, you have an essential role to play in the protest movement! Are you ready to learn what it is?
