“As a social worker who has worked with domestic trafficking victims to homeless youth, I wasn’t unfamiliar with the needs in my community. What was new to me after my immersion trip to the borderlands was understanding the things I was already doing even outside of my work, the bridge building and connecting people, as peacemaking.  

We think we have to move or do something big, but sometimes you’re already right in place. God has already placed you somewhere to be an everyday peacemaker, and it’s about the mundane task of obedience and having conversations with people right in front of you. You just need new eyes and a fresh perspective.

I think sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to be peacemakers right where we are.

Peacemaking isn’t a title or working at a nonprofit or even what we do, first and foremost, being an everyday peacemaker is who we ARE. It’s about identity. We are beloved. We are already a person of peace, and our transition is to move from thinking about what’s ‘out there’ to what’s ‘right here’—it’s already in us.
